This Is Why Flash Photos in Museums, Concert Halls and Sport Venues Are Still Forbidden
Going to a museum, a sport event or a concert you can expect a ban on flash photos. Why is it forbidden and what is the rationale behind it?
Flash in the face
Flash enables us to take a good quality photo in difficult light conditions. Still, this popular option is not welcome at concerts, sport or cultural events. It's all because of the fact that flashes can be disturbing for some people, not to mention distracting the athletes or performers. The video below clearly illustrates the problem. Of course this is an extreme or even exaggerated situation but the truth being said nobody likes to be blinded with a flash straight into our face.
Flash in museum
The situation in museums is slightly different. While photos as such are allowed there, flash is never an option. There are a few reasons and at least some of them are quite debatable. They come from the times when it was obligatory to put on special slippers.
How do museum authorities explain the necessity for the flash ban?
#1 Flash damages works of art
Yes, flash can have negative impact on exhibits. This of course refers to paintings only. Of course as long as each of them was photographed a few thousand times per day.
#2 Blinding flashes are a nuisance for other visitors.
#3 The personnel might have some security issues.
#4 It makes no sense to flash-photograph exhibits placed behind glass.
All you will get in your photo will be a gigantic flash.
