This simple science trick gives a speedy cold beverage. We are almost sure that this trick will be your fav during holiday parties! All you need is a bowl, ice, water and salt. Four supplies, a little bit of waiting ( 2-3 mins) and you're ready to drink perfectly chilled beverages.
Some of you can ask - what is the salt actually doing to cool it down more than without it?
Adding salt to the ice and water mix causes a temperature drop that slows the melting rate and increases the freezing rate. The net result is that the ice melts more and more slowly after the initial addition of salt.
Adding salt to the water upsets the delicate balance between freezing and melting. Fewer water molecules reach the surface of the ice in a given time, so water freezes more slowly. The melting rate isn't changed by the salt, so melting "wins".
