Can you wash your things without spending loads of money on washing powders and liquids? Of course you can! We all have a product at home that can remove stains, soften the fabric or get rid of nasty smells. Any idea what we are talking about? Yes, this is white distilled vinegar! Find out how magical it can be if you use it to wash things!

White vinegar has got several application. Most importantly, however, it is environmentally friendly and cheap! If you have never used it, I think it’s high time you did it!

    Vinegar and washing clothes

We have got a list of possible applications of this ‘magical’ product. Just try it out and soon you will realise that using vinegar only for cooking purposes is a big mistake.

    #1 Removing stubborn stains

You don’t really need to know where the stain comes from. White vinegar can handle a vast majority of them. Spray some vinegar onto the stains and let it sit there for 10-15 minutes. Less stubborn stains can be soaked in a mixture of vinegar and water (1:2). Once you wash the clothes, the stain will disappear.

Vinegar also works when it comes to washing white clothes. It refers to regular washing as well as stain removal. Simply pour a glass and a half of vinegar into the washing machine. It will also handle the stubborn armpit stains – soak the clothes in hot water and vinegar (1:4) and then wash the clothes in clean water.

    #3 Softening the fabric

Vinegar decomposes the detergent deposits in clothes which makes them, especially towels, much softer. Pour a glass of vinegar (to the fabric softener drawer) and your clothes will stay soft much longer.

    #4 Removing nasty smells

Some smells, especially on sport clothes, are really difficult to get rid of. However, once again vinegar comes to our rescue. It kills the bacteria that causes the smell. Again, a glass of vinegar added to your washing is all that you need.

    #5 Protecting colours

When you wash your clothes very often, your dark clothes might fade a little. If you add a glass of vinegar during the first washing cycle, it will protect their colours and the paint won’t come off. You can also soak the clothes in a mixture of water and vinegar if you are worried about the colours. This trick is particularly worth your attention if it’s about washing jeans.

    #6 Cleaning the washing machine

Sometimes the washing machine needs some cleaning, too. To get rid of the nasty smell and the disgusting deposit, pour half a glass of vinegar and start a regular washing cycle. Once it’s over, your washing machine will look and smell like a new one, too.

Don’t bother about the smell of vinegar. It disappears when the clothes are dry. Now that you know how many applications vinegar has got, perhaps you should consider trying it out. Believe me, it really works!
