In Israel, the first restaurant serving completely ethical cultured meat was opened.

The restaurant is in Tel Aviv

It is a project by SuperMeat, an Israeli start-up specializing in the field of research and ethical meat production. The meat is grown in laboratories directly from cells.

The restaurant is right next to the production plant. That is why the guests can watch the ongoing process through the windows.

    The food is… free

Opening the restaurant was a real milestone in SuperMeat development. The thing is that guests do not have to pay for the meal there. Instead, they are requested to leave some feedback about the taste, smell and texture of the meat served there.

That is why the team collects important data guiding further development of the project. Bearing in mind the popularity and growing competition, they win a lot this way.

    Chicken rules the menu

It is burgers that the customers go for the most. Served with original dressing and fresh vegetables they do not differ from traditional meat. The menu offers two versions of burgers: classic and fall, with the latter including chili apple chutney and beetroot leaves.

Cultured meat as a response to market demand

According to the AT Kearney report released last year, by 2040 majority of meat will no longer come from slaughtered animals. It is estimated that 60% of meat will be either cultured or made of plant ingredients.

Opening the restaurant really facilitated the production process as more and more food industry companies wants to cooperate with the start-up now. There is a growing social demand for transparency and ethical treatment of animals, which sometimes do not go hand in hand.

Therefore cultured meat can be a response to the needs of so many people.
