6 Hidden Plane Options You Might Not Have Heard Of

We are all aware of pros and cons of travelling by plane. Although it’s the fastest means of long-distance communication, it also has got some specific drawbacks, for example baggage limits (especially in case of cheap airlines) or little leg room.
In spite of all these inconveniences, flying is really pleasant. Still, even passengers flying hundreds of times per year do not know about certain functionalities that planes offer.

Hidden bedrooms

During long-distance flights the crew has to be well-rested to ensure security of the passengers. That is why some planes have got a hidden bedroom, in the front or in the back (and in some cases there are two – in the front and in the back of the aircraft) where the pilots and flight attendants can relax. There is no need to worry here – pilots will never leave the aircraft uncontrolled – they take shifts!

A button in the armrest

Few of us know that the row by the entrance has got a hidden button in the armrest, this allows you to change the position of the armrest so that you can get more space for your legs or hips. So if you want to get a little bit more comfy, find the button in the bottom part of the armrest and lift it.

Yellow hooks

While flying you might have noticed some small yellow hooks on the wings. They are useful during an emergency landing on water. Should that happen, the crew will make use of them to help the passengers get to inflated slides forming a handrail attached to the hooks.

Aisle handrail

During the flight passengers walk along the aisle to get to the toilet or take something from the overhead lockers. This when we often bounce into other passengers trying to keep our balance. You should have noticed that the cabin crew never have problems with that. Why is that so? The thing is that right below the lockers there is some hollow space that you can use to hold on to in much the same way as you use a handrail.

A hidden toilet lock

We all know that you can lock yourself inside the toilet. But I guess few of you know that you can unlock the toilet from the outside, too! It is usually under the ‘TOILET’ or ‘NO SMOKING’ sign. It allows the crew to open or close the door during landing or in case someone faints inside the toilet.

Adaptable headrests

While we all know that the white pieces of cloth covering headrests are there to ensure hygiene, few of us know that some seats have got adaptable ‘ears’ to support your head, especially when you are sleeping. Thanks to them your neck won’t be that stiff once you wake up.

Did you know about any of these functions?
