What smells repel ticks?
These minute arachnids have very good sense of smell. That is why the best way to keep them away is a scented oil that is safe for your skin. Choose your favourite scent and rub it in or spray it. Of course the first thing you need to do is to dilute a few drops of selected oil in a small amount of a plant oil, for example grape seed oil or sweet almond oil.
The oils that work best as tick repellents are those based on tea tree, thyme, pepper mint, eucalyptus sweet almonds, patchouli and sage.
After diluting 5 drops out of 50 ml of a selected oil, you can rub it into your skin or spray it on it. Now you can peacefully relax outside and there is no need to worry about the ticks anymore.
How to take out a tick
Now that you have learnt what smells keep ticks away, why don’t you find out what to do once the tick bites into your skin.
You have to be very careful while taking a tick out. You must not tear its pieces apart or crash its head. Use tweezers to hold it as close to the skin as possible and pull it along the way it got inside. Do not twist it. Never use any substances to cover the tick. Do not burn it, grease it or drown it. The only thing you can do is to take it out. Then disinfect your skin. Keep an eye on the spot and consult your GP if there is anything worrying.
