Salar de Uyuni is a perfect site for unusual holiday photography. Clouds are reflected in this salt pan and people or cars that are on it look as if they are standing on a huge, smooth mirror.
Salt Flats in the Mountains
In short, Salar de Uyuni is the remnant of a dried up salt lake. It lies in the Bolivian Andes at an altitude of 3653 meters. It covers an area of 10,500 square kilometers. In addition, all the time salt is extracted from it (about 20 thousand tons per year). All due to the fact that the lake is covered with a salt layer, under which there is a liquid brine.
A Huge Mirror in the Open Air
This Bolivian tourist attraction is the largest salt desert in the world. During the rainy season (November-March), a layer of water appears on its surface. Thanks to that it turns into a huge mirror and becomes an extraordinary photographic open air. Of course, during the dry season it also looks interesting. Then on its surface you can see dried and cracked salt cover.
Cactuses and Coral Reef
The impressive surface of the desert is not just an endless white space. There is the Incahuasi Island, which is overgrown with cacti. Secondly, you can also observe rock formations and the remains of a coral reef.
It's no wonder, then, that Salar de Uyuni attracts throngs of tourists eager to exploit its photographic potential.
