3 Ways to Combine Pumpkins with Succulents for Unusual Fall Decorations

Autumn decorations are extremely charming. They usually consist of pumpkins, colorful leaves or artificial wreaths. But maybe this year you should do something different and unique?

As it turns out, you can easily combine pumpkins with succulents to create an original fall decoration. The pumpkin acts as a pot from which the plants grow. Before proceeding, it is important to choose a suitable pumpkin. It should not be soft or damaged. This way it will stand longer and will not rot quickly.

It is a good idea to choose a vegetable with a relatively flat surface on top. This will make the succulents look more attractive. Don't cut off the stem either, as this procedure can accelerate rotting. To slow down the process, properly preserve the pumpkin pot. All you need for this is dishwashing liquid, water and bleach. If you want the whole composition to last several months, just use artificial pumpkins.

The second step is to choose succulents. Thickets, sedums, esheverias, eoniums and succulents with overhanging stems are perfect for pumpkin pots.

On top of your stuffed pumpkin, start attaching peat moss with hot glue (it absorbs water well and keeps it moist). Then proceed to plant the succulents (you can help with the glue). It is important to leave some soil on the roots of the plants. While you're working, be careful not to damage or hurt the succulent with a knife, as it will begin to rot quite quickly at this point. After planting your succulents, hold off on watering for about 7 days. After this time, water the moss and then continue watering regularly every week thereafter.

Cut a hole in the pumpkin, hollow out the center and pour in the inside of the vegetable with bleach. This will create a casing into which you can easily insert a pot with succulents already planted. When watering the succulents, be sure to remove the pot from the pumpkin casing. This is so that the pumpkin does not come into contact with the water, as it will begin to rot.

Inside the pumpkin, you can create your own succulent decoration. First, cut a hole in the pumpkin, hollow out the center and impregnate the inside with bleach. Next, line the center with cling film and place a florist sponge soaked gently in water over it. Place a layer of moss on top of the sponge and begin planting the succulents.

Of course, in the pumpkins do not have to be only succulents. The composition should be varied with cones, artificial flowers, heather, leaves, rowan, chestnuts. You can also spray paint the pumpkins themselves or sprinkle them with glitter or sequins.
