5 Natural Humidity Absorbents – They Are Really Good at Fighting Mold at Home

High humidity inside is as dangerous as excessively dry air. It stimulates the growth of mould and fungus, gives the room a stale smell, causes sleep and concentration problems and also entails respiratory system issues.
To reduce humidity inside, you don’t need to spend a fortune on expensive equipment. All you need is some plants who will naturally collect the water content from the air.

#1 Fern

The plant used to be far more popular. It’s a pity it’s not that common as not only does it control the humidity level but it also neutralizes harmful TV and computer screen radiation. Most importantly, when the leaves go yellow, the plant informs us that there are some harmful substances present in the air.

#2 Spath

In its natural habitat the plant grows in the lower parts of jungle. That is why it prefers slightly shadowy locations and regular watering. Moreover, her shiny lanceolate leaves absorb the excess of humidity as well as cigarette smoke and toxins present in paints, carpets and plastic items.

#3 Palm trees

Grown in pots at home they are a fantastic decoration. They hardly ever bloom, yet their beautiful leaves are a pride of every house they are in. They can grow up to a few meters so you need to choose the right place where you want to keep them. Palm trees also pick up the excess of moist. They also absorb formaldehyde, a toxic substance present in carpets, wallpapers, insulation materials, floor panels and chipboards.

#4 Common ivy

This evergreen climber can grow up to 2 meters long if cultivated at home. It is not particularly demanding . It can grow by 40 cm per year. Just like palm trees it also absorbs formaldehyde. Apart from that it picks up mold spores and neutralizes nasty smells. To let it absorb even better, let it climb along the ceiling.

#5 Spider plant

The plant belongs to the lily family. It is a perfect choice for beginner gardeners as it hasn’t got any particular requirements. Its spiky-tipped leaves look a bit like grass. Again, apart from reducing humidity levels the plant also filters the air, picking up dust and neutralizing the radiation generated by electronic equipment.
