‘When I moved in, I really wasn’t aware of how much I was going to spend to make the place ' fully inhabitable'. Of course we could start living there, but there were some little things and pieces to sort out, like wardrobe lights or air-conditioning. It's always a good idea to plan things well in advance. The bigger TV for your living room is one of the last things you should bother about. Instead, prepare for budget updates and a few repairs. The 'I must fix it all here and now' approach is not going to work.’

'Don’t forget to replace the locks. Coming back from shopping I met our neighbor inside the house. It turned out that the previous owners had given him a spare key and never took it back. When the police arrived, we made sure that he hadn't taken anything. I also told him not to come back. Although he has proven to be a very decent neighbor since then, but there is no way I will ever trust him giving him the house keys. We also have much better locks and an anti-burglary alarm system.'

'Remember about a ladder. Standing on a chair to fix the smoke detector worked in a small apartment, but house rooms can be much taller.
