    A 16-year-old girl, whose details are to remain confidential, thanks to a sign she had learnt over TikTok managed to inform others that she was in danger and she needed help. The aggressor did not notice that and that's why she was rescued.

    'I need help!'

    It all happened on a road in Ohio, USA. A teenage girl was carried in a car by the kidnapper. Sitting in the back of the car she managed to show the sign which alarmed people driving behind them. The aggressor, a 61-year-old James Herbert Brick, did not notice anything.

    The sign

    The police did not reveal what sign the girl had used. They only pointed out that she had learned it over TikTok and that the sign was to help victims of domestic violence let others know that they need help. It is very likely that it was the sign shown in the images below. To show this sign you have to expose your palm and then trap your thumb inside your fist.

    The tutorial

    You can also take a look at the video below which clearly illustrates how you can use the sign without attracting the aggressor's attention and at the same time letting other people know you are in danger.

    The police experts offer some hints for people who have noticed such a sign:

    • we must not show too openly that we got the message, especially when the aggressor is likely to be around; that could jeopardize the victim;

    • we should finish the conversation like nothing really happened;

    • we have got to call the emergency number and explain that we have met a person asking for help.

    This is how you do it. Show your palm and then trap your thumb in your fist.

    A happy ending

    Coming back to the girl, the person who saw her show the sign contacted the police. They continued to drive behind the car with the girl inside until the police officers arrived. And this is how the she was rescued. Perhaps this is the first situation when someone gets saved thanks to TikTok information.
