A Quick and Ecological Way to Get Rid of the Silverfish from Your Bathroom

Some guests are never welcome in our bathrooms. These definitely include the silverfish – very small and agile insects.

Unwelcome creatures

Our house often get visited by guests that we would rather not receive. These little things like spiders, bugs and ants cunningly get inside and disturb the peace and quiet of our home life. When it comes to bathroom, the top of the go-away-list is occupied by the mysterious silverfish.

Wingless insects

These wingless creatures’ body is covered by silvery scales, which is where their name in fact comes from. One has to admit that this is a bit ‘over-romantic’.
They love damp, dark and warm spots. Although they do not transmit any diseases or bite, therefore not posing any threat to humans, somehow we feel that nobody likes sharing their bathroom with them.

Sweet diet

The silverfish are nocturnal creatures and that is why they avoid light. They are attracted by humidity and warmth, which is why they so eagerly move into our bathrooms. They eat anything that contains sugar – bread, groats, paper, flour, wallpaper glue as well as insect excrements. Interestingly, they can survive even up to a year without food.

Lavender traps

Even if your bathroom has been infested with a horde of the silverfish, there is no need to panic and break down. There is an effective method to help you win the battle against this insects.

Prepare a lemon, some water and lavender oil.

Squeeze a bit of lemon juice into 200 ml of water. Add 10 drops of lavender oil. Pour the mixture into a spray bottle and sprinkle all corners of the bathrooms where the silverfish has been spotted. This mixture won’t kill them, but it will effectively repel them with its smell.

The silverfish also dislike the smell of cucumbers, sage and rosemary. That’s why you can spice up your mixture with these extra ingredients.
