Aphids are the bane of every gardener. They are small, reproduce quickly, transmit viral diseases and feed on plants (suck all the sap out of them). They are not very choosy. Therefore, if you notice at least a few individuals parasitizing your seedlings, don’t delay and take action right away. See the best home remedies for aphids.

Home Remedies for Aphids

Aphids attack vegetables, fruit trees, coniferous shrubs and flowers (including those growing on balconies and at home). Their invasion can destroy entire flower beds. However, there are many effective ways to prevent and get rid of aphids by home methods. Everyone has one favorite and proven way. We give you some of the best 😉

# 1 The Strength of Hands

If the insects are not many, then put on gloves and simply pick them off. This should prevent them from multiplying.

# 2 Natural Enemy

Ladybugs love aphids. That’s why it makes sense to lure them into your garden. There are two ways to do this. You can either spray your plants with a sugar-water solution or hang up yellow ribbons, tapes, rags. As eccentric as it sounds, ladybugs are attracted to everything that’s yellow. 😉 They’ll eat aphids (a larva eats up to 100 of these pests per day) and also ants that live in symbiosis with aphids will disappear.

# 3 Plant Allies

Choose to intercrop your vegetables. In one bed, alongside your favorite plants, plant those that give off a strong aroma. This prevents pests from showing up. Aphids do not tolerate the smell of lavender, mint, nasturtium, onions, savory, garlic.

# 4 Home Remedies for Aphids – Old-Fashioned Vinegar and Baking Soda

They work well not only for household chores, but will also effectively repel aphids. To prepare the solution you will need 3.30 oz of vinegar and 2 pints of water (1:10 ratio). Instead of vinegar, you can also dissolve 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda in 2 pints of water. Do not forget to add a little oil (the preparation will stick better to the leaves). Spray the chosen mixture on the plants.

# 5 Grey Soap and Milk Rub

Dissolve about 0.7 oz of gray soap in warm water (2 pints). When the solution has cooled down, spray it. You can also replace the soap with milk diluted with water in a ratio of 1:1. Although, using fresh, fat milk (not the one from the carton) has better results… 🙂

# 6 Home Remedies of Onion and Garlic for Aphids

These two vegetables are avoided by aphids like fire. Or rather, everyone always has them on hand. Therefore, use them to make homemade sprays. Pour 2 pint of water over sliced onions (choose a larger onion or 2 medium onions) and boil for about half an hour. Then strain the brew and let it cool down. For garlic preparation you will need 5 chopped cloves. Place them in a dish, pour water over them and leave them for a day. After 24 hours, dilute with water (1:1 ratio).

# 7 Meadowside Remedies

In the fight against aphids you can use plants that are readily available and from which you can prepare decoctions. When searching the meadows, focus on: Chamomile (flowers), nettles, dandelion (leaves), and wolfsbane (inflorescences). Pour 2.65 gallons of water (rainwater is fine) over a kilogram of plants of your choice. After 24 hours, start spraying.

# 8 For Smokers

If you smoke cigarettes, sacrifice some tobacco to fight against aphids. Pour 5 oz of this product over 0.2 gallons of water (temperature 158 °F) and leave for a day. Later, strain the decoction and dilute with water (to 0.5 liters of the mixture pour 1 liter of water).
