A Natural Enemy of Aphids. A Spray Recipe That Is Effective and Dirt Cheap

You will not believe it but in the fight against aphids you can safely use… cigarette butts. This is a great option for any smoker who is also an avid gardener and plant lover. Learn the recipe for tobacco decoction!
Cigarettes are harmful stimulants. However, used wisely, they can become an ecological weapon against aphids and other insects that cause harm to our plants.

Tobacco aphid remedy

If you smoke cigarettes, then collect cigarette butts and extract tobacco from them. If you avoid stimulants, then buy tobacco in loose form. You will find it easily and can safely choose the cheapest one. Then pour the tobacco (about 50 g) into a glass jar and pour hot water (half a liter of liquid). The temperature should be about 70-80°C (160 – 170o F). Set the concoction aside for a full 24 hours for decent brewing.
After 24 hours, the decoction is ready. You still need to strain it through a gauze and necessarily dilute it with water. Use one liter of water for about half a liter of decoction. With such a prepared mixture, spray the plants on which pests have appeared. The spraying itself is worth repeating every 2-3 weeks. It is effective for aphids, spider mites, thrips and greenhouse whiteflies
If you want the spray to stick better to the plants and adhere to the leaves, then add one tablespoon of grey or potassium soap to it. This ingredient will form a film on the surface of the flowers. Thanks to it, the decoction will not wash off so quickly.

Take safety precautions

Tobacco contains nicotine, which is not good for our health. Therefore, spray only on ornamental plants. It is important that they are not intended for consumption.
Do not spray near ponds. The decoction can get into the water and pose a danger to fish and other animals. In addition, refrain from spraying when there are a lot of bees on your plants in the garden or on the balcony. There is a risk that the decoction could harm them.
