All beginner gardeners would love to see the effects of their work as soon as possible. That could be possible thanks to some species of quickly growing plants. Some of them spread as fast as lightning!
#1 The purple cranesbill
Growth rate: 50 – 60 cm per year. This wonderfully decorative plant forms quite huge flowers of intensive purple-blue color. They have got spicy fragrance. The plant is frost-resistant.
Growth rate: 3 meters per year.
These are climbing shrubs or perennials. There are approximately 4,000 varieties of this plant. They are adorable thanks to their colorful and varied in terms of shape flowers. To help them climb, you have to provide steel ropes, trellises or grids.
#3 The staghorn sumac
Growth rate: 30 – 50 cm per year.
This tree has got spreading umbrella-shaped crown and in the fall its leaves turn red and yellow. It tolerates long dry periods and its spices can be used to make a spice.
#4 Wild privet (also known as common privet)
Growth rate: 30 cm per year
This shrub belongs to the olive family. It’s got shiny leaves and works perfectly as a hedge. It grows very fast and is not really demanding. It survives even if growing on a sandy soil. It is also insensitive to the pollution common in urban environment.
#5 Lion’s foot
Growth rate: 40 – 60 cm per year
The plant is known for its healing properties. It is recommended to be planted around ponds, along paths and in between shrubs. It’s a typical groundcover.
Growth rate: 30 cm per year.
This is a shrub or a climber. In fact there are about 200 varieties of jasmine all over the world. It’s popular thanks to its intensive fragrance. It will grow by a wall or even right by a fence.
#7 Field maple
Growth rate: 40 – 50 cm per year
This tree normally grows from 5 up to 15 meters tall. It also makes a good hedge and tolerates trimming very well. It is resistant to disease and pests.
Growth rate: 200 cm per year.
|This is by far the most common climber. It forms strong shoots that easily climb upon supports or spread on the ground. It is easy to grow and prefers half-shade. If you want it to climb your front wall, you need to remember that it can easily get inside any cracks in the wall, which might results in even more extensive damage.
Growth rate: 60 – 80 cm per year.
For gardens, it is the decorative varieties that we recommend the most. Some of them have got really spectacular leaves (maroon, black and shiny, sometimes feathery and with white dots). Elderberry likes sunny spots.
Growth rate: 150 cm per year
This intensively growing plant will stun you with its lily or white flowers, blossoming in bunches.
It won’t survive without a strong support enabling it to climb. Otherwise it will adhere to rainwater gutters, fences, front walls and anything it comes across on its way.
#11 Common catalpa
Growth rate: from 40 to 50 cm per year.
This plant can grow up to even 10 meters. It has got a spreading crown and large heart-shaped leaves. It looks great in large gardens and parks. As for smaller gardens, we recommend its dwarf varieties.
