Tips to use while opening a coconut:
* While making the hole press the drill or a screwdriver hard to avoid slipping it onto your hand.
* If at hand, use rubber gloves to hold a coconut.
* If without gloves, do not hold it in the whole palm, use just fingers as while breaking the shell tends to pinch the skin.
* Always make at least two holes to make coco water go out faster
* Be patient and hit the nut until it opens, it may take a while with some! You’ll hear the sound of cracking the shell, keep hitting till it opens itself!

I have not opened one myself, but my parents used to use an ice pick to open for the liquid and then a hammer to break the shell.
