Children born before Christmas in one of San Antonio hospitals are given some special presents.
The voluntary power
Blue Bird Auxiliary is a religious community set up in 1920 in San Antonio, Texas. It includes volunteers who selflessly bring help for patients of 6 Methodist hospitals. They welcome patients there, answer the phones, help at reception desk or the cafeterias.
Unusual tradition
The volunteers have been following a 57-year-long tradition – all newborn babies who come to this world 12 days before Christmas received cute Christmas stocking-shaped sleeping bags. Moreover, they get tiny red and white striped caps. The gadgets have been made by the volunteers themselves since 1964.
Tiny elves
The children in their Christmas sleeping bags are definitely the best present their parents could dream about. In an outfit like this, they can leave the hospital in a very stylish manner. They look like tiny elves who bring so much joy!
