CDs used to be a luxurious commodity. Later they became something common and finally got replaced by the new technology of flash drives and MP3 players. Of course music lovers still have their vast collection of compact discs. However, many of us don’t know what to do with piles of redundant CDs. If you have a garden or an orchard, there is one solution worth your attention.
Some time ago, walking around I noticed a couple of CDs hung on trees. Some old and scratched discs were attached there with some thin strings.
Some of you might think it’s a kind of bad-taste decor of garden, but with nobody living around, what’s the point?
It is nothing but a smart way to repel pests, in this case birds, deer and hares. The animals find our gardens as easily accessible feeding points and roam there if not deterred. Of course we can’t be there at all times and we can barely afford expensive repelling equipment. Old CDs are cheap and very simple to make use of.
It is all about hanging them loosely on trees so that even a very gentle breeze could move them. As a result, the CDs reflect the sun rays in several directions scaring approaching animals. It is important to change the location of discs from time to time. The animals won’t get used to the light knowing it won’t hurt them.
